The Horse & Dogs series

It’s a Fair Bet" is a straightforward horse racing simulation. Choose your horse, place your bet. Starting off with a hundred to spend, you have as long as you like to make a million. Check out the odds from the form, decide on your stake and place your bet; win, place or show. With a thousand horses in the game (the names of which you can customize) and with races over varying distances, some handicapped some not, in different weather conditions, there is endless variety in this simulation game.

Watch the races in full 256 color VGA graphics, with 3D scrolling backgrounds as the horses fight realistically for the lead.

You can compete for a place on the "Fair Efforts"performance board (best day’s betting performance) and ultimately try to top the "Millionaires" performance board (least amount of bets to make a million). That is, if you don’t go broke. . .

If you run out of time, you can save your game and return to it later.

"It’s a Fair Bet" is a safe bet for hours of entertainment for the entire family.

While Good To Firm (relates to the condition of the track) is a much more complated game where you take care of the Horses in your stable, buy & sell, train, race and even bet on them.

The Greyhound 1 and 2 are as implied Dog Racing games.Rename, train, race and bet.

These are some of the Soccer Games in the Collection.

An E-Mail from a very remarkable person ( remember our moto: Better games for Better Players)

Just wanted to drop you a line to give whoever was involved in the development of 1-0 ’96 a big round of applause, a standing ovation, in fact.

My entire life I have searched for a soccer management simulation that captures the essence of on field coaching as well as this game--and there have been none.

The performance of the players as unique individuals throughout the course of a season or their career (as they age) is nothing short of eerie.  Some players defy their stats to do what they can be depended on doing in clutch plays (for better or worse).

Rare youth players can be scouted out, and through rigorous effort, groomed into multi-million pound superstars.

Game time action, allows for subtle manipulation of attack and defense (changing a player on the ball to say a "forward mid-fielder w/ quick, long passing) and the intended receiver of the ball to "striker w/ keep ball, short pass) will result in an immediate attempted pass to the desired player as long as no other players on the pitch are left as attackers at the time of the play.

A player on the ball may be urged to shoot on goal (conversion to a "center back" w/ keep ball, short pass) or to cheat a defender by dribbling out to the wing (conversion to a "winger" w/ keep ball, short passing) while another player nearby is converted to a "striker" or "center forward" to draw out the defense while the other player dribbles around the outside and then is either made to pass (see above) or turned into a striker or center forward w/Keep ball and sent in for the goal.

By constant manipulation of player positions during the course of the game, a type of "Total Football" can be achieved where the entire course of play directed by you the coach and carried out (or not) by your players to the best of their current ability.

The game becomes like chess, but without squares, where any game piece can fluidly become any other piece at any given moment!  A match between two human opponents who know what they are about and are constantly pausing the game to adjust players to make plays takes easily a full 90 minutes!  Moreover, I suggest an official half-time to let tempers cool between halves.

Frankly, graphics would detract from play during the game, but I would ask for the ultimate dream--keep the game mechanics as is, but provide a game replay generator that allows one to go back and watch a CG graphics intensive interpretation of a match.  Maybe a highlights editor too, so that the really good spots could be saved to a highlights reel if one didn't want to archive an entire game.

Thanks again!

Grand Prior Review                                                                                                                          hipp:www.inter log.com/-gardiner/gwp.htm

Grand Prix Wizard
Published by: Wizards Games

For Too long now racing simulations have been largely ignored. Apart from the graphics type games like NASCAR Racing and Indycar Racing. But with the release of Grand Prix and Grand Prix 2, Wizard Games introduced us to the world of auto-racing simulations. With the recent release of Grand Prix Wizard, racing simulations have reached a new level of detail and excitement. Again in this version you are the owner of a Formula One racing team and your goal is to manager your team to victory. Clinching the driver's championship and the constructors' series is the ultimate goal of your team by building cars, hiring and firing drives, getting sponsorship, signing on staff and testing your cars.

The first thing you have to do is select the team you will own. If you want an advantage right off the bat sign on for good and rich team like Ferrari or Williams or McLaren of if you really want a challenger join Celtica, Fiction, Ecosse or Arrows. The Level that you start at will determine the amount of difficulty you will have winning the constructor's championship at the end of the season.

After you have selected your team. the next job is to look over your staff and see if you want to make any changes in the drivers, engineers, designers or your assistant. If you are on a tight budget to start you may want to stay with what you have got but if your money is plentiful then you may want to upgrade. Once you are happy (or reasonably happy) with your team it is time to hit the race track. You can start with a test run of any track to see how your cars and drivers will perform but the races are where you really find out what your team is made of.

Once you head out to race you get all the sessions you see in an actual F1 race, practice sessions, warm-up session, qualifying sessions and the actual race itself. After some sessions your crew will suggest changes to the cars like a new setup for the brakes or the engines, this kind of tinkering allows you to use your crew to the  the best if of their abilities to help you gain a competitive edge.  Then comes race day, but do not think your job is done, you have to tell your drivers how to run the race. Will they drive flat-out? Push hard? Preserve the car? Will they protect their teammate who is running ahead of them or will they drive to win? These desisions are up to you.
.

In addition to the usual mishaps that can occur during a race like accidents and mechanical failure, you can experience the joys of stalling in the pits, being delayed by crew error and being disqualified for a myraid of reasons. Nothing is more annoying that haveing your racer who is in the top 5 being delayed for two minutes in the pits due to crew error.

While the season is running, it is your task to prepare for the next season. In June when the new parts catalog comes out you must start developing the car for next year. You must buy engines, chassis, bodyshells and every other part that comes with a Fomual 1 racer. The better the rating of your crew who is in charge of purchasing the better the parts you will get. If you are lucky you may be offered free parts as a promotional deal or you can develop you own parts but be warned this is more expensive and time consuming than buying ready made parts.

Once the season is finished you must still work hard during the close season. First you must re-sign the drivers that you want to keep. Then you may start looking for available drivers to sign on. Of course the better the drivers the more money they'll wabt, Uf tiy are reallyin a financial mess you may even a driver who will PAY to race for your team. It is also during the close season that you can hire and fire staff, make sponsorship deals, test your cars and prepare for the next season. Grand Prix Wizqard covers just about every aspect of F1 racingand covers it very well! The business side as well as the racing side is very nicely done and the detail is amazing even including driver deaths during races. One small thing I'd like to complain about isn't even game related. At one point in the game a new team emerged, it was called HIT-Wall Racing...the owner name, A. Senna. Just kind of bad taste I thought. Grand Prix Wizard is a great game for racing fans and likely to win over those of you who are not fans of F1 racing. A grest simulation.

After writing this review, it came to my attention that I was in error. In my remark about the HIT-Wall Racing team being owned by A. Senna being in poor taste I found out that the game had been dedicated to the memory of Mr. Senna.I was unaware of this at the time of the writing and now that it has come to my attention I humbly withdraw my view. No disrespect was meant to the author or Wizard Gamess of Scotland.

Yours truly,

Scott Gardiner- Editor

A fine game from Wizard Games, Rockstar is also a very addictive one.

You play the role of a classic rock band leader, and your goal is to achieve maximum popularity. You'll accomplish this by writing songs, playing gigs in various places (from your neighborhood to America and Europe), recording albums or singles, signing contracts with majors or staying an independent label, throwing parties with groupies, and always following the saying "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll."

This isn’t a game for kids. It contains coarse language and questionable behavior.

In fact, you’ll often be asked to take various kinds of drugs, which will have different effects on your brain and on your life as a decadent superstar. You’ll have to be careful, because some will give you more “creativity," others will damage you more and make you become drug-addicted.

Being that it's not a really "healthy" lifestyle, you'll have sometimes to visit your doctor or your analyst, go on vacation to relax (there are various possibilities, from "Sunny Britain[sic]" to "Paradise Island"), or even, in the worst case scenario unwind in a sanatorium or make drug rehabilitation. Obviously this will make you fall into deep depression...

You have to take care, because too much disorderly conduct will lead you to your death.

You can also change the names of computer bands into real rock bands, making the game even more realistic. Or even more comical. It can be funny to read sentences like, “you’re invited to a wild rave party led by Pavarotti," or “your granny invites you to take some amphetamines."

Well, if you get into this game you’ll surely enjoy it, so pick up your Stratocaster and start practicing ... one day you could be a Rockstar!
